Bump's cold brew is the order at the Cardiff counter — go full mint mojito cold brew if you're feeling fresh, sip it while you browse the thrift store next door, then grab an empanada for the road and take the whole thing to the beach. It's basically a perfect morning, already planned out for you. Or post up on the patio at their Leucadia spot, shared with Haggo's, if that's more your speed.

Steady State's Cold Fashioned is the perfect perky summer order for the cold brew crowd, and the cardamom latte is its own kind of delicious. Or go local-favorite with the PSL — their Pancake Syrup Latte. For the straightforward types, the pour-overs and espresso options hold their own too. The San Marcos counter sits right next to their own roastery, so whatever you order, it didn't travel far to get to you.

Lofty's rosemary flat white is a favorite of ours during the cooler months, while the Aztec Mocha (cinnamon, cayenne, a little bit of a kick) seems to be the town favorite year-round. Add the acai bowl either way — it shows up in nearly every review as the best in town. Grab a patio table and settle in.

Communal's lavender honey flat white is the move — floral, not too sweet, and exactly what you want in hand while the line winds you straight through their gift shop and flower stand on the way to the counter. Budget a few extra minutes, and a few extra dollars, because you will buy something. The whole shop is one of the most beautiful spots on this list — easily worth a coffee date with a friend, or just an hour to sit outside and let the morning happen around you.

The coffee at The Goods is good enough, sure, but the donuts are the actual reason to go. The lemon protein collagen donut changed our life — we don't say that lightly. Bonus: there's something extra cheeky about hearing your GPS announce "The Goods will be ahead on your left," like it's in on the joke too.
